Anxiety Help - Gossip - Anxiety Disorder Defense?

Gossip - Anxiety Disorder Defense?

I'm taking a Mental Health course; my question is: which anxiety disorder defense mechanism would you attribute the majority of gossip to (hurtful, mean gossip).

Well, I agree that gossip as an anxiety disorder defense could be projection in that they likely feel very insecure about themselves so they put their own insecurities on others, but in that sense, you could also call it deflection as they are redirecting attention to someone else to avoid scrutiny of themselves by others.

However, I'm not sure about devaluation as that is the individual dealing with emotional conflict or internal or external stressors by attributing exaggerated negative qualities to self or others; I suppose it could be devaluation, but I would go with the two I mentioned first before that.
